Drag Show Etiquette!

So, you're headed to your first drag show, but you're wondering what you need to know, in order to not be an annoying audience member? Well, then you're in luck because I am here to help you!

  1. Bring plenty of bills! Often, local drag queens don't get paid to perform for you, so what they are being tipped, is their income! If you like the show, make sure to tip the girls!
  2. Give the queens your undivided attention! You wouldn't go to a play in a theater and sit and text your friends the whole time, so don't do that here.
  3. Some queens are interactive, so if they come up and talk to your, just play along! Don't be scared.
  4. Their job is to entertain you, and in order to do that, sometimes they have to embarrass you. Don't take it personally. They're just doing their job.
  5. Take pictures and videos of the queens you enjoy, and make sure you post them all over social media. Social media advancements have completely changed how we look at drag, so it's a very important key piece into a drag queen's popularity. Just make sure if you post pictures and videos, you tag the queen and establishment featured!
  6. Prepare to be offended. Many drag queens rely on dry, often sexual-based humor in their shows. These are men (and sometimes women!) in makeup and wigs and heels, they clearly aren't taking life too seriously, so you shouldn't either!

If you'd like, watch the hilariously informative video below, created by my two absolute favorite drag queens to come off of "RuPaul's Drag Race", Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova.
(I will not that it is a video on the open internet, so some language and content may not be appropriate for children - but let's be honest, neither are most drag shows!)
